2020 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

SESSION C:  Aug 17 - AUG 21 (2 weeks)

Note that "limits" are set just so that we do not over assign more club boats than we have available.  If you have your own boat, you will be automatically added to the class regardless.  If you don't have your own boat and think the class is full, email us - we may still have room.


JR INTERMEDIATE/SKIPPER - OPTI II:  Ages 9-13. Intermediate.  Student has sailed Opti before and is comfortable sailing alone, is able to rig, launch and sail to take this class.  Students will learn Opti sailing in a fun, safe controlled environment.  This class is an introduction to dinghy racing.  Learn how to tie advanced knots, tell wind direction, learn capsize recovery and sail trim, steer with tiller and sails.  Learn techniques to complete tacks faster and controlled s-shaped gybes.  Learn to sail efficiently, independently, confidently.

#S02E | Session C:  2 wks @ 4 days Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs 8:00am-10:00am…8 classes $280



JR INTERMEDIATE/SKIPPER  FOR 420, SUNFISH, LASER:  Ages 9 & UP.   Intermediate.  Student has sailed before and is comfortable sailing single or double handed (420 needs partner - family members only).  Students must be able to rig, launch and sail to take this class.  Students will learn intermediate dinghy sailing in a fun, safe controlled environment.  This class is an introduction to dinghy racing.  Learn how to tie advanced knots, tell wind direction, learn capsize recovery and sail trim, steer with tiller and sails.  Learn techniques to complete tacks faster and controlled s-shaped gybes.  Sailors learn to sail efficiently, independently & confidently.

#S04E | Session C:  2 wks @ 4 days Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs 10:30am-12:30pm  8 classes $280



JR OPTI RACING:  Ages 10-17.  Advanced sailing skills needed - dinghy racing.  Review basic race rules and racing tactics.  Students will sail common race courses such as windward-leeward course and triangular course.  Practice and improve upon effective starts, including favored end of starting line, basic starting techniques, and understanding of starting sequence.  Learn center of lateral resistance, center of effort, optimal sail shape, and fine tune sail trim using tell tails.  Improve rounding of all marks properly.  Learn protocol to lodging a protest.  **RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN BOAT TRANSPORTATION TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY FRIDAY RACES - may or may not be races this season.**  ***This class during Session C runs 30 minutes longer than before and ends at 5:00pm.***

#S06E  |  Session C:  2 wks @ 4 days Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs 1:30pm - 5:00pm*.. classes $375

#S08E |  Session C:  2 wks @ 4 days Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs 1:30pm*-5:00pm....8 classes $375




*ADULT SAILING – FLYING SCOT:  (Limited to  4 students).  Ages 16 & up or family groups of any age.  Because of Covid-19 we will have limited class sizes - just 2 students per boat and an instructor.  Each student will alternate days as skipper and crew as assigned by the instructor because of our sanitizing protocol.  Beginners through advanced -the class will be adjusted to your skill level.  Learn skills, leave & return to dock, trim sails for power, sail around marks, anchor, reef sail, sail on just a mainsail or a jib, knots, dock lines, and more.  Learn to sail, gain confidence, have fun!   MASKS MUST BE WORN ON THE BOAT AT ALL TIMES DURING ADULT LESSONS - THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL.  Some days the students MAY use 420's at the discretion of the head instructor.  A 420 is a 2-crew boat.
