Winter Dry Sail Boat Storage This selection is to pay your Winter Dry Sail for the period Nov 1 - May 1. If you need help, email rear-commodore@wetpantssailing.org

Registration for Nov 1 -May 1 is open - if you are not continuing to keep a boat from Summer Dry Sail into Winter, your boat should have been removed by the fall cleanup - no later than Nov 1 or you will be billed or your boat removed.

Dry Sail by season is available for storage on our rack, on your dolly or your trailer. This is an additional fee based on the size and class of boat, on top of your membership. This is seasonal. You must have a Family Membership to utilize Dry Sail, even if you qualify for senior membership. You must keep your area tidy, boat clear so others can pass, and keep ALL gear stored in the sail shed clearly labeled with your FAMILY NAME and PHONE #.

When can I bring my boat?
Whether new, renewing or returning after an absence - ALL members must contact the Rear Commodore first before bringing a boat to the yard (officially May 1 or later, but never before the Spring Cleanup) with the exception of boats that wintered over in Winter Dry Sail. Please pay for your space FIRST and make sure you have a current WPSA ID # on the boat - if you need one or a replacement a weathered one, request a sticker from the Rear Commodore (Mike Noon), confirm that there is space for you and to get a location assignment. rear-commodore@wetpantssailing.org

SPRING BUSINESS MEETING 2026 - for members (27 May 2026)

The annual Wet Pants Spring Business Meeting will be held at the clubhouse beginning at 7:00pm. This event is open to members of Wet Pants Sailing Association. Members are invited to attend - it will be held at the WPSA clubhouse located within the Port O'Call Marina at 395 Foster Ave; Sayville, NY 11782.

In the registration popup please scroll to the rsvp box if you don't see it. Enter how many in your family will attend so we have ample chairs put out. This is a 2 second simple registration - just put a number and hit enter - easy peasy!

The Annual Spring Business Meeting of the Wet Pants Sailing Association membership will be held at Wet Pants, on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026 at 7:00pm. This is a Board Meeting to include the participation of the Wet Pants Sailing Association membership. You will be welcome to speak.

We invite our returning members to attend, and especially encourage our newest members to come down, meet members and learn more about our club activities. For our newest Family Membership members, every member of your immediate family age 14 & up is entitled to 1 vote each when there are items up for vote.. As a volunteer run not-for-profit organization, the input and participation of our members has been the heart and soul of the club since 1934.

We look forward to everyone's participation.

A current family membership is needed to enroll any and all family members. You cannot be in arrears for dry sail or other matters.

Bad weather happens - while we may extend a makeup day (for weather cancellations only) but do not guarantee that there will be a 1 for 1 makeup.

DRY SAIL STUDENT DISCOUNT: We encourage students use their own boats in paid lessons. We are pleased to offer a Summer Dry Sail discount of $50 per session, per boat for students using their own boat - this comes off the dry sail payment, not class enrollment.

There is a limit of $100 per boat (2 sessions), the boat must be the same boat used in lessons. Once registration for membership and class is submitted (stop at the payment screen) and email us - we will adjust your invoice and email you the adjusted one. You will have until the day before your session begins to pay dry sail in full. Dry Sail is yard storage for member's boats. Students are encouraged to register for both Session A & B for the full 7 weeks but you may select just A or B to suit your schedule as needed. You must select and register for each session separately. No class July 4th.

Sail your own or a club owned boat in class! Waitlist numbers are just to reserve club boats, as we have a limited number available. However students using their own boats are always welcome and will be automatically added over and above the waitlist number. Please email if any questions. See the Dry Sail Student Discount above!

Note that a Family Membership is required to register for a class or dry sail regardless of family size or participation. You do not need a boat or experience to learn to sail!

YOUTH CLASSES - BEGINNER - MORNINGS M-Th 8:00am-10:00am

JR BEGINNER OPTI I: Ages 8-13* (based on the child's height*). Beginner. Students learn how to rig, launch and sail the Optimist dinghy solo for independent sailing in a fun, safe controlled environment. This class is an introduction to the dinghy. Learn how to tie knots, tell wind direction, capsize/recovery, sail trim, steer with tiller and sails, techniques to complete tacks and gybe. Learn to sail efficiently, independently, confidently. Note that in certain wind/weather and other conditions we may combine this class with Cruising using bigger group boats for safety. When opportunity arises we will offer the chance to cross train and try other types of boats at our discretion. Bad weather days we hold classroom lessons. This class has club boats available for use unless you have your own. We recommend you sign up for both Session A & B together to not lose your place in the class - it will fill. PREREQUISITE: JR BEGINNING CRUISING 1 or prior sailing experience. Child must be strong enough to sail and rig their own boat - suggested for the higher age ranges.

Bad weather days we still hold classroom lessons. Note that in certain wind/weather and other conditions we may combine this class with others using bigger group boats for safety. JR RACING TEAM - ADVANCED: Ages 10-17. Advanced sailing skills needed. Dinghy racing in your choice of boat - solo in Opti, Sunfish or Laser or the 2-handed 420 (partner needed). We have 5 club 420’s and 7 Optis for student use - or use your own. Student has previous sailing instruction and is ready to compete. Review basic race rules and tactics. Students will sail common race courses such as windward-leeward course and triangular course. Practice and improve upon effective starts, including favored end of starting line, basic starting techniques, understanding of starting sequence. Learn center of lateral resistance, center of effort, optimal sail shape, fine tune sail trim using telltales. Improve rounding of all marks properly. Learn protocol to lodge a protest. We recommend you sign up for both Session A & B together to not lose your place in the class. Bad weather days we still hold classroom lessons. Fridays are race days and are held offsite, at other clubs hosting GSBYRA races (with the exception of the one we host at WPSA). You are responsible for transporting & supervising your child and boat to races. A personal GSBYRA membership may be required. *No class July 4th. PREREQUISITE: Prior approval by instruction team required.

WPSA Sunfish Race - Summer Series 2026 - open to all members! (30 Jun 2026)

Get out and join our Sunfish series! Fleet races hone your skills, get in some racing with others in the WPSA Sunfish community with Fleet Captain, Lee Montes on Tuesday nights at 6pm, (posted 8pm end time is approximate time off the water, and may vary!!) wind and weather permitting. Please come down EARLIER to rig and launch. Be out and check in at the committee boat before the 6pm start - give your name and sail number for each race. If you don't have a sail number to identify, you can apply a simple one (numbers or a letter etc) with electrical tape (they are typically 9-12" high. Free to race!

Adults, youths - all ages welcome, all sailors must be capable to sail, maneuver, and capsize recover independently and without supervision. Dates are weather dependent - and may be cancelled if wind/weather are poor or hazardous conditions exist. Check on Facebook for weather cancellations, the SportsYou app, or with Lee.

RACES START AT 6PM, SO IT IS SUGGESTED YOU ARRIVE AROUND 5PM TO GET RIGGED AND OUT ON THE COURSE. LATE ARRIVALS, SEE THE RACE COMMITTEE BOAT FOR INSTRUCTIONS.

RACE REGISTRATION IS INFORMAL - AND FREE! It is helpful for us if you register here for a headcount and show up on Tuesdays BEFORE 6pm (6pm you should be out on the course ready to start). See Fleet Captain, Lee Montes for any questions about anything Sunfish! DO check in on the water at the race committee boat with your name and sail number, every race. Also please DO alert the race committee boat if you ever have to go in to shore early or have any issues on the water so they are aware you are off the water and safe as they might not be aware, remember they are officiating a race.

Not ready to race? Come down and watch the fleet prep their boats and ask all the questions you want! They love to share! Youth are welcome to participate if they can be unsupervised, have shown competence to compete approved by the instruction staff, and a life jacket is a must, always. We have a Committee boat out on the water for race nights to oversee, score, and for safety if you are unable to recover.

Ma Huus Singlehanded Sunfish Championship @ Tuesday, AUGUST 4th

Sunfish & 420's are invited to join the Friday night PHRF Race series, with staggered starts for different classes of boats. The Ma Huus Championship eligibility to win is only open to WPSA members sailing Sunfish but all may race as normal.

History of the "Ma" Huus: "The CC Knockabout Class donated the "Ma" Huus Trophy in 1965 to commemorate Augusta M. "Ma" Huus, whose service, spirit and devotion to the association was of unparalleled importance in leading the organization to it's present high esteem and whose particular interest in the CC Knockabout Class helped in sustaining that class so that it had existed as an active racing class longer than any other in the Wet Pants Sailing Association.

It is now awarded to the Wet Pants Member who has the best record in a three-race Sunfish Series. Ma Huus was Financial Secretary and also served on the Race Committee when not crewing for her husband. She was also the recipient of the Sacred Pants in 1959."
