    YOUTH - INT & ADVANCED - AFTERNOONS M-Th 1:00pm-4:00pm+ REGATTAS

JR ADVANCED SAILING:  Ages 10-17.   For sailors looking to grow beyond the basics and have fun doing it - without the pressure of racing, if racing just isn't your thing.  This class focuses on advanced boat handling, sail trim, navigation, and performance sailing.  It's perfect for confident sailors who want to sharpen their skills, try new techniques, and take their sailing to the next level in a relaxed, exciting, and hands-on way - no starting line required!

This is a non-race class for 420 and Sunfish sailors who prefer recreational sailing and cruising rather then competition.  You will do advanced skill-building and destination sails.  Prior WPSA students taking Advanced for the first time will need approval to make sure they are ready to step up - a solid sailing foundation is needed so that you can keep up during sails and are able to handle your boat.  (Intermediate at 10am can be taken several times to get to this level.)

Learn better boat handling and sail control, improve boat speed through point of sail and trim.  Do distance sails while mastering tacks and gybes.  Heave to.  Stop and hold position.  Man overboard recovery.  What to do in sudden weather changes. Optimizing sail trim with sail shape for different points of sail and wind conditions. Docking and departing dock under wind power.

PREREQUISITE:  Prior approval by instruction team required.

Silly awards for the end of the season throw a little humor at some notable moments. Tomorrow night, Thursday 8/14 at 6:30pm we have our annual Junior Silly Awards, sharing lighthearted and humorous moments from the 2025 Sailing School season.  This is for students that attended both sessions A & B.  Paper plate awards from your instructors!  All in good fun - we invite everyone to come!  Students will receive certificates of completion as well.  Free.  At the club!  No registration required.

Next month  we have our formal awards event, the Annual Mess Dinner where we give serious recognition to achievements - and I urge you to come.  Tickets go on sale in August.
